This is as happy and domestic as Van ever sounded, playing guitar on his horse while Janet Planet read tarot cards and the Hippie dream still had a heartbeat. The music is Van’s spin on Country Folk and, like everything else he tried in the early 70s, it works. “Wild Night” is the hit but “Old Old Woodstock,” the title track and “You’re My Woman” are the centerpieces. Just another masterpiece from the weird, brilliant Celtic guy who was briefly found bliss and would spend the rest of his life searching through Yeats and the mystic and the silence to get back to this place.
