“Astral Weeks” is the critic’s choice but it’s just as fair to suggest that this is Van’s crowning achievement — the introduction of Caledonia Soul as Pop music. The title track might be the least enchanting song on the album — and that’s saying something because it’s a glorious song. But “Caravan,” “Into the Mystic” and “Brand New Day” are the real payoffs. And not a miss on the album. A stone cold classic. Tape in excellent vintage condition.
